Invention of the Day - The Toilet

The toilet
In the distant past people did what animals did. They left their body wastes in the country side. In our modern day toilet water from the tank swishes away the wastes into the sewer. John Harrington godson of queen Elizabeth the first had the idea in fifteen eighty-nine but hardly any houses had a water supply to fill the tank or a drain where it could be emptied. Next was Doultons pedestal toilet invented in eighteen eighty-eight. The water was stored on the wall high above the toilet bowl or pan. Pull the chain and water rushed down the pipe around the bowl through the trap and into the sewer.
